When Ava Gardner married Frank Sinatra, she was so touched that Sammy gave her earrings with the monogram "AS" for Ava Sinatra. As her marriage was falling apart and Sammy's career was in a lull, he asked her to pose with him for a magazine. The resulting press targeted them as a romantic couple, which they NEVER were. Ava felt betrayed by Sammy and they rarely spoke again, but she always treasured the gesture of the earrings.
