Do heroes still exist?  Undoutedly!

Judah Maccabee and his soldiers were defenders of human dignity and religious freedom.  Judah and his brothers were likely ordinary persons but circumstance and determination inspired them to leverage challenge into opportunity.

Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook tells us we are living Hannukah candles able to spread our inner light into the world and live a life of heroism by so doing.  We can live more brightly than we imagined even in the face of great challenge.

Ben Zoma teaches that us that heroes overcome urges and impulses, heroism that comes from self-limitation, that is, not minimising all we can do and be.
