Billy the Kid may be pardoned after 130 years due to allegations that New Mexico Territorial Governor 1878 to 1881, Lew Wallace, promised to pardon Bonney in exchange for his testimony against three murder suspects.
The descendants of Wallace and Sheriff Pat Garrett who shot Bonney to death in July 1881 dispute this point of history while insisting no promise of pardon was made and would besmirch the legacy of Wallace as a dishonourable liar!
