The residents of pituresque, landlocked Vermont were unexpectedly surprised by the flood rains of Hurricane Irene - the worst onslaught in 75 years.

Adding to their distress was the loss of lovingly preserved and treasured historic bridges like the Bartonsville Bridge that spanned the Williams River for 140 years.
