Hal Kanter wrote for Bing Crosby and Bob Hope in the 1952 movie "Road to Bali" and in 1957 directed Elvis Pressley in "Loving You." 

He created the landmark 1968 ABC TV series "Julia" that starred Diahann Carol and featured a black actress as a professional working woman. 

He wrote for the Oscars for decades, winning Emmys in 1991 and 1992 with other show writers.
