The great storm of 1703 was an epic event of three centuries hence in the reign of Queen Anne.

8000 lives lost.  The Royal Navy all but wiped out.  The Eddystone lighthouse off Plymouth, obliterated.

Wind gusts in the English Channel were 140mph - a ship torm from its moorings blew 200 miles running aground at the Isle of Wight 8 hours later with full crew aboard.

Swift and terrifying destruction.
