Olympic Trivia

de bene esse: literally, of well-being, morally acceptable but subject to future validation or exception

Herb McKenley almost won the 100m Gold at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. This is the 100m photo finish. The race, which produced one of the closest finishes in 100m history, was won by Lindy Remigino USA in a time of 10.40, who won by one inch, and did not believe he was victorious.

That time was also recorded for Herb McKenley JAM (silver), Emmanuel McDonald Bailey TRI (bronze) and F. Dean Smith USA 4th.

...
The other 2 finalists were V. Sukharyev SOV and John Treloar AUS, both at 10.5.

The distance at the finish between 1st and 4th was fourteen inches!
