de bene esse: literally, of well-being, morally acceptable but subject to future validation or exception
There is nothing more painful than a story with an unfortunate dose of irony. The assassination of President Lincoln is one such story.
The Secret Service are the President’s bodyguards and the group was formed on the night Lincoln was assassinated! How did Lincoln still die?
Initially, the Secret Service was instituted to investigate country wide problems because no other law enforcement group had the authority to investigate across the nation. To solve this problem, Lincoln proposed a group of officers whose jurisdiction would stretch across the country.
Unfortunately, legislation to ratify Lincoln’s decision left on his desk on the night of his assassination.
After Lincoln’s death, the legislation became vitally necessary and the duties of Secret Service officers was transformed to involve protecting the president.
