André-Gustave Citroën (1878-1935) was the developer of a car named
after him.
The Citroen car company that he founded in 1919 became the
world's fourth largest car manufacturer in 1932. CITROEN is a Dutch word
meaning "lemon"; as a family name it is documented with Jewish families
in the Netherlands. The German variants ZITRON or CITRON (Polish
spelling) are typical of Jewish families from Central Europe.
