The bodies of 24 U.S. soldiers who drowned when their boat sank in the middle of Italy's Lake Garda at the end of WWII may be recovered later this year or early next year after an Italian volunteer group located their boat
The remains of 24 U.S. soldiers from WWII may soon be recovered after divers found an amphibious vehicle that sank to the bottom of Italy's Lake Garda in 1945. All but one of the amphibious vehicle's passengers drowned when the boat took on water in the waning days of the war. The group of volunteer divers in Italy announced this past December that using a remote operated vehicle they had located the boat sitting upright on the lake's bottom. They said they will be resuming efforts to locate the remains and recover the vehicle later this year or in early 2014.
