Party History Jamaica

de bene esse: literally, of well-being, morally acceptable but subject to future validation or exception

'Practice dances' in Jamaica in the early 20th century

The term 'practice dance' had currency in Jamaica from the 1890s to the 1920s, but was probably originally an import from North America, where it was also in use. I have not so far found any references to the term in social histories etc of Jamaica, so I am posting here the references I have found in contemporary newspaper items. These items seem to show that the term and the events had some significance in the lives of the Jamaican working classes. source
