1994 Crime Bill

15 years ago today: the Clinton Administration reached its goal of funding 100,000 police officers under the COPS initiative. As part of the 1994 Crime Bill, President Clinton signed a plan to help communities across the country move to community policing by funding the hiring and redeployment of 100,000 new police officers. Crime rates dropped to a new 27-year low.
