Judy Garland

de bene esse: literally, of well-being, morally acceptable but subject to future validation or exception

On this date in 1939, Judy Garland recorded with the Victor Young Orchestra the song that would become her signature tune, "Over the Rainbow."

She introduced the Oscar-winning Harold Arlen/E.Y. Harburg song in the beloved "The Wizard of Oz." Photo of the cast of the "Wizard of Oz" from the L.A. Times files.
