On September 15, 1963, four girls were killed in the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, after a member of the Ku Klux Klan detonated a bomb under the steps of the church. This act of white supremacist terrorism, so described by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., also went on to call the act "one of the most vicious and tragic crimes ever perpetrated against humanity."
Their names - Addie Mae Collins, Carole Robertson, Cynthia Wesley and Denise McNair.
