The legendary country western singer Hank Williams died on this date in 1953 at the age of 29. Williams, who wrote and performed such standards as "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," died of heart failure. Williams had struggled with alcoholism and drug abuse for several years. His funeral in Montgomery, Alabama was supposed to have been the largest held for anybody in the state. "Your Cheatin' Heart" was released after his death and was No. 1 on the country charts for six weeks. Photo of Williams from the L.A. Times files.
