1950s Texas Drought

de bene esse: literally, of well-being, morally acceptable but subject to future validation or exception

Texans are under the punishing effects of a drought that has robbed them of acres of crops with no relief in sight.

It reminds residents of an even greater drought spell that enveloped the state in the 1950s - farms and ranches failed and water had to be sought from neighbouring states.  The drought ultimately changed the states' demographics when people ran to relief in urban areas.

The worse years were 1951, 1954 and 1956 within what was an awful decade when crops stopeed growing and ponds dried up - although the driest year ever occured in 1917.

Texans are bracing themselves for what may be a long and arid season.
