Stone Age Tunnels

de bene esse: literally, of well-being, morally acceptable but subject to future validation or exception

Evidence of a massive European network of stone tunnels that weave from Scotland to Turkey discovered under Neolithic settlements.  The tunnels are 12,000 years old.

Researchers suggest these tunnels protected the species from predators or provided save travel away from war, violence or itinerant weather.

For an amusing twist - chapels were built at the entrances of these tunnels as the Church viewed them as havens for heathen activity --- the Church keeping their deep and dark ignorance  alive as expected!  Other references suggested the tunnels were a gateway to the underworld.
