The West Memphis three are freed after 17 years - incarcerated for the 1993 murders of three 8 year old boys.

Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley Jr. and Jason Baldwin have been released on the Alford Plea which allows one to maintain their innocent but plead guilty to the court because of a belief that a jury verdict will likely be a guilty one (State v Alford).

DNA evidence exonerated the accused in 2007 who were aged 16, 17 and 18 at the time of their arrests.
