Seventy artifacts of the California Gold Rush have been unearthed in San Francisco - they include clay opium pipes, French perfume bottles, animal bone toothbrushes, ceramic tea pots from China, English serving dishes, apothecary jars, porcelain dolls and chamber pots.

The items were used in the clapboard houses on Mission, Natoma and Minna Streets between First and Beale occupied by Irish, Swedish, German, Italian and Chinese immigrants.

The California Gold Rush began at Sutter's Mill near Coloma on 24 January 1848.
