I get asked a lot how I can tell how old a dress is by just looking at it and the simplest answer is lots and lots of research! Browsing through old catalogs has been one of the best sources for information. Here is a scan from a Sears Catalog dating from 1940 and a very similar dress at Adored Vintage! Do you collect vintage catalogs or magazines?
