Galileo Galilei

de bene esse: literally, of well-being, morally acceptable but subject to future validation or exception

“Long experience has taught me this about the status of mankind with regard to matters requiring thought: the less people know and understand about them, the more positively they attempt to argue concerning them, while on the other hand to know and understand a multitude of things renders men cautious in passing judgment upon anything new.”

- Happy Birthday Galileo Galilei, born 15 February 1564.

Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who played a major role in the Scientific Revolution. His achievements include improvements to the telescope and consequent astronomical observations and support for Copernicanism. He has been called the "father of modern observational astronomy", the "father of modern physics", the "father of science", and "the Father of Modern Science".
