Activist and poet James Weldon Johnson would have been 142 years old today. 

Johnson is responsible for writing "Lift Every Voice and Sing" and would dedicate his life to uplifting Black people by serving as a principal of the largest school in Jacksonville, Fla. and then becoming the NAACP's first Black manager, playing a key role in raising the group to prominence.
