Ancient Faces
de bene esse: literally, of well-being, morally acceptable but subject to future validation or exception
This
photo postcard shows Oregon lumberjacks posing for a traveling
photographer in the early 1900s. On the back a handwritten message says
"The method of falling large timber on the Pacific Coast. Starting the
undercut to throw the tree. A flat form is built around all large trees,
the tree is notched to throw it a general direction, then sawed down."
