Shadowed Ground
Shadowed
ground is a geographic concept that examines what Americans have done
at the sites of tragic and violent events. It looks at how and why they
have chosen to memorialize, virtually ignore, or destroy various sites
around the country that were places where tragic and/or violent events
such as the Battle of Gettysburg, the assassination of John F. Kennedy
and the Oklahoma City Bombing took place throughout the last three
centuries.

Chinese Islam
Despite
the government of the People's Republic of China's staunch secular
stance, there exists a substantial Islamic presence among its ethnic
minorities. In fact, there is a larger population of Muslims in China
than in most Arab states, and Western China, bordering on Pakistan,
Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan, is known as "The Quran Belt" due
to large number of Islamic communities found there.
