An archeologist claims to have unearthed evidence of one of the earliest chemical weapons attacks in 3rd century Syria (pictured). About 20 Roman soldiers were believed to have been gassed when Persians set fire to a compound of bitumen and sulphur and pumped it into a narrow passageway.
