The 'Saving Private Ryan' mystery that haunts Camilla's family: Three brothers killed in the trenches, a fourth raring to go... but he's told he can't. So who gave the order that saved Duchess's beloved grandfather?

Harry, Alick and Hugh Cubitt, the Duchess of Cornwall's Great Uncles, all died in the trenches during the First World War. The fourth brother, Rolie, was spared. The decision to forbid him from fighting on the Western Front, despite the fact he was a member of the Coldstream Guards, left him mortified and he never recovered from being kept at home. But there is no evidence to suggest why. Was it a military decision, or an act of compassion by the war office.
