Daredevil pilot Major Robert Loraine became one of Britain's most famous pilots in the first days of aviation. He used his skills with a joystick - a term he coined - to fight in the First World War, where he was injured and is believed to have been x-rayed by Marie Curie. After retiring from the military, he went on to become a film and theatre actor.
