Maria Cole converses with the Reverend Adam Clayton Powell Jr. and his wife Hazel Scott at her wedding reception after marrying Nat King Cole 65 years ago today on March 28, 1948. Reverend Powell, the legendary Harlem congressman, officiated at the ceremony at the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem.
According to Michael Henry Adams - author of the beautiful coffee table book, "Harlem Lost and Found" - Ms. Cole wore a $700 ice-blue satin dress, a gift from her educator aunt, Charlotte Hawkins Brown, designed by none other than VBG fashion designer legend, Zelda Wynn Valdes.
