Egypt ~ a long and ancient history most famously recalled for its Pharaonic dynasties starting with Mena in 3100 B.C.E.

Egypt defies imagination with their structures and Pyramids at Giza that have defied nature's elements through time and stood their ground since 1567-1085 B.C.E. until 2011 A.D. and counting!

The last of their great Pharaohs was conquered by Alexander the Great in 322 B.C.E. but they had weathered earlier Persian incursions in 525 B.C.E.

Arab invasions and its cultural influence began in 642 C.E. and remain today.  The Ottoman Turks took control in 1517 until 1882 except for a short Napoleonic interruption.

Cairo's growth into a city began in 1863.  The international flashpoint that is the Suez Canal was constructed in 1869.

The long and inaccurate film Lawrence of Arabia adapted from the book of the same name covers aspects of British activity in the region specifically during and after WW2 but Ottoman rule ended in Egypt when Britain assisted at the end of an 1882 Egyptian revolt against the Ottomans.  Egypt was a WW2 base of operations for Britain whose occupation continued there until 1922 when they declared the country's independence.

Instability began in 1952 when three political forces began clashing for power over the region and the pivotal Suez Canal.

In 1953 Egypt was declared a Republic with Lt. Col. Nasser as leader, his death in 1970 led to the election of Anwar el-SadatEgypt's 1973 war with Israel led to the 1978 Camp David Accords for peace and Sadat's assassination in 1981 was followed by Hosni Mubarak's election, a period now realized as one of slowed and still deteriorating political progress.
