425-page Nazi directory
de bene esse: literally, of well-being, morally acceptable but subject to future validation or exception
Pictured: The 425-page directory listing the name and rank of every Nazi member of the SS which a British spy stole from Hitler (and Himmler is number one)
The book was published on December 31, 1938, just months before the start of the Second World War, and was later stolen by a member of Britain's Special Operations Executive.
